The Big Move

Several months back Dewey and I started talking about possibly making a move to a new state. We wanted a place that has a more diverse population and a more diverse culture. This is what we wanted for our family. Both Dewey and I grew up as non-LDS in Utah. It was hard. The majority of the state is LDS. As a child I remember having friends one minute and the next they were not allowed to play with me as I was not LDS. As a married adult living in Utah County I would drive down my neighborhood street and wave and there would be LDS women who wouldn’t even acknowledge me. Now I do want to say this isn’t the whole religion. I know that. But it has happened enough to me that and I didn’t want our children to go through this same thing. Dewey feels the same way.

Anyway, Dewey’s position at the company he was with was coming to end due to contract and the plant closing. After putting several resumes around Utah and several in other states he received and accepted an offer for a position with a CAT dealer in Aurora Colorado. We were able to work it out with my company that I would be able to work remote from our home in Colorado.

Once everything fell into place with Dewey’s work and my work things moved quickly. We had to come out here and find a rental with only 2 weeks before our big move. I was completely against buying. I wanted to first get out here and determine this was the place for us and then from there decide on an area that would be what we needed and wanted. We decided on a rental in Thornton. It’s cute enough. We just aren’t the renting type. We like to have the freedom to do as we please to the property. But this will work for now.

I have adjusted better than I had expected to. Dewey is having a rougher time. I think he realized what we did have in Utah, in regards with family being close by. He has never been the "family" type. I mean he loves our families. But when it came to family parties he was more the "Lets make a quick appearance and be out" type. I think that has changed with this move. He is really missing everybody.

The plan from the very beginning has been – We will go out there. If it’s for us, great. If it is not for us we will go back to Utah. We’ll give it a year.

So that’s what we are doing. That is where we are at. We will see what the future holds.
