Khloe has yet to potty train. We have tried a few times before but it became more of a fight than anything so I always backed off. I have read a child will potty train when they are ready. I have also read that it takes time and is hard. So, which is it? Wait for her to tell me? Or start and don’t stop or give up when I know she can do it? I will not allow her to be lazy. I will not teach or enable her to be like that. If I know she is ready for something I will encourage her until she has the confidence she needs.
I know she is capable of doing it. Once in awhile (on her terms) she will tell me she needs to go #1. She will also run off and hide when she goes #2, and will then come to me and tell me she is poopy. This child is stubborn.
So with that, we are giving it another try. And this time I do not plan on giving up. She is ready. She just likes to be in control. She is also as the age where she is defiant! Anything I say, she argues. Oh boy…. This is going to be fun :)
This past weekend we kept talking to her about when Monday comes we are going to start potty training! We took her the store where she got to pick out her new big girl undies. We also went and picked out a treat. Every time she goes #1 she will get 3 M&M’s. When she goes #2 she will get 5! She was so excited this weekend…. And then this morning came. First thing I said is "It’s Monday! Let’s go sit on the potty really quick and then we will get your big girl undies on".
Cries, fits, kicking, screaming. That is how today started. I'm not going to lie, I was immediately discouraged. But we kept with it. And to my surprise today went SO much better than I originally thought! We had a few accidents earlier in the day, both before nap time. I think we were both trying to find out how this would work. I'm not saying we have it figured out. But I think we will get there.
I was also very surprised she was able to stay dry through nap time. If I start seeing that consistently over the next little bit we will keep her in undies through nap time and will then work towards nighttime. And the best part of today? She went #2 in the potty! A few setbacks, but ultimately I call today a SUCCESS!
Fingers crossed that the next few days get easier and we continue to progress.
